Shady Creek Winery: A Hidden Culinary Gem in Michigan City

This is an excellent place to celebrate milestones, birthdays, promotions or just meeting friends and family for lunch, brunch, dinner, just wine or dinner. Upon making the reservations I was able to add that it was my sisters birthday. This business didn’t disappoint. My sister doesn’t drink and she was given a birthday mocktail and a birthday celebration slice of cake after our appetizer and lunch. This place is nestled in Michigan City and is definitely a hidden gem. The food was good. The service and the manner in which orders are taken are a lil different than other establishments of its kind. You don’t get a personal waiter/waitress. You are seated upon entry, but are told that you have to go to the bar to purchase your food and drinks. It was kind of odd because I walked up with a menu to order a flight ( which was amazing) and an appetizer. Had to make two trips because I couldn’t carry the menu, flight, my phone and the menu back to the table. I will definitely dine again. I also joined the wine club. Not sure if I will cancel my membership with coopers Hawk.

This is a self-serve restaurant. Upon being seated at your table take note of the number on the wine barrel centerpiece. You will need to remember it when you go to the bar and order your foods and drinks. Very quick service and lovely staff; we ordered the mussels and they were delicious! Recommend getting one of the wine flights as each glass is suspended individually on its holder! The backyard is perfect for small ceremonies and such pretty lighting.

This was a great stop on our way through Indiana! The atmosphere was really nice, the food menu had lots of choices and the wine was delicious. There were many people with their kids and it was enjoyable.The executive chef was very personable and welcoming. We will definitely be back,

Some friends and I went for the fondue experience. We were seated in a beautiful, private room with only 3 other tables. There was a gorgeous fireplace and private bar. It was so lavish that we started to worry about the price for such a decadent experience. It ended up being QUITE reasonable. The service was impeccable. The chef came to our table twice to greet us and check on our experience. The cheese, salad, and dessert courses were delicious. Now...the main course. We've had fondue many times, but we've only ever had it with oil. At Shady Creek they use broth, which is quite common. My brain tells me it's probably a million times healthier with broth, but my heart just can't get on board; it's just nowhere near as delicious with broth. The vegetables were fine this way, but the meat essentially tasted like boiled meat--not my taste. I love Shady Creek and will certainly continue to frequent it, but I doubt I'll be back for fondue.

I always have a wonderful time at Shady Creek! Years ago a friend used to hold a heart awareness fundraiser there before it was completely remodeled, and now it’s even more gorgeous and relaxing! Their fire place is cozy and last night there was a gentleman playing his guitar and was really good! My friends and I dined there while enjoying our wine and every item brought out was delicious and pleasing to the senses. If you want a fun time with family or friends, this place is a must!

I HIGHLY recommend Shady Creek Winery! The winery is beautiful, seating is comfortable, with a view that you'll return for. The food is outstanding, with service that will blow you away. Then there's the wine... Indiana has no right to produce wine that rivals those made in California, but Shady Creek pulls it off. You can thank me later.

My partner and I visited for the first time for a Fondue Experience. Just note that the winery is in central time and not eastern. My partner and I accidentally arrived an hour early. They were able to seat us at the bar and then seat us to dinner early which was amazing (we didn’t ask to be seated early, it was just wonderful service). We were escorted to the Oak Room which had a lovely romantic atmosphere that seats three tables with a view of the wine barrel room. My partner and I were introduced to our server and the events coordinator who informed us of the history of Fondue and our menu for the evening and the wines available to order. (I mistakenly thought the wine was included in the dinner.) The cheese, main, and chocolate fondue courses and the paired accoutrements were amazing. The steak and chicken were cooked really well. And we loved the marshmallow and graham crackers in the last course. The salad offerings were delicious as well. Overall, my partner and I recommend the experience. The coordinator said it was seasonal so we are looking forward to more offerings. The food, service, atmosphere were all incredible and we can’t wait to visit again!
